Botox parties

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog shares his thoughts on A Botox Party – A good idea or not a good idea?

A Botox party is a frequent conversation heard around some social circles. A social gathering at a friend’s home seems like a delightful idea, being in the comfort and safety of a home, lively chatter, food and drinks flowing. Although this sounds like a fabulous idea, the chances are there will not be any measures put in place to safe guard the client nor the doctor and to carry out the procedure safely and effectively.
If you choose to drink alcohol at a Botox party, many doctors will not carry out the procedure as the client will not fully understand the benefits and the risks associated with the Botox treatment. Also under the influence of alcohol a client increases their risk of bruising afterwards.
While Botox injections and treatments are safe, however, side effects and / or complications do occur such as, slight bruising around the injected area, discomfort and temporary muscle weakness. The next possibility is relatively low; however the toxin can spread to various parts of the client’s body. If there was a tiny possibility something may go wrong, being at a clinic, allowing the doctor access to help with a medical emergency will be beneficial.
If you are considering any form of Botox treatment, please use a qualified, reputable and experienced doctor. They will take a detailed medical history and the medication you are currently taking and see if Botox injection is right for you.

I summary avoid botox partiers and be treated in the sterile environment of a clinic.

botox to reduce signs of ageing

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog shares his thoughts on how your face changes over the years.

As we progress through life our face goes through many changes naturally, the aging process. However, environmental factor, such as sun exposure, wind, our life choices, such as smoking, drinking heavily have a dramatic effect on our skin. It is important to remember that healthy skin and a good skin care habit and routine starts in the early years and ideally must be maintained throughout the years.
As you go from childhood into adulthood, you begin to lose the ‘baby fat’ and your features are growing into adulthood. The facial changes that may possibly occur during the age of 20 to 30 are:
Beginning of fine lines which can be reduced with botox injections
Slight dullness of the skin
While in your 30’s you will still retain much of your youthful look, this is the decade when you may notice your skin looks tired and less radiant. The following facial changes may occur from the age of 30 to 40 years old:
The upper eye lids, the skin becomes saggy.
The outer corners of the eye develop crow’s feet
Frown lines appear on the forehead
Wrinkles start to appear around the nose and mouth corners
As you enter into your 40 to50’s the facial changes that occur are:
Same as above however the following may also occur:
Lower eyelid bags or in some cases the lower eyelids appear sunken
Lines between the eyebrows – treated via botox
Drooping on the outside of the eyebrows
Loss of fatty tissues under the cheeks
Deepening of the smile lines
During the age of 50 to 60 year old, the effects of gravity kick in:
Dropping of the eyebrows – uplifted via botox treatments
Many people find that the tip of their nose droops
Loss of tightness in the skin
Thinning of the upper and lower lip
Many of the facial changes pointed out above can be prevented, maintained and managed with the use of Botox and Dermal Fillers. All Botox treatments and Dermal Filler must be applied by an experienced and qualified Doctor.

Dermal fillers

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog shares his thoughts on dermal fillers.

Dermal fillers – How can they reverse the sign of ageing?
As we get older our skin loses fat and collagens making it look saggy and wrinkled. Other factors also increase the ageing process such as sun exposure, smoking, poor diet, pollution and alcohol.
Dermal Fillers are a non-surgical injection that restores the collagens and fat to give you a longer lasting more youthful, plump and fresher look and target dynamic lines compared to botox that target motion lines.
How do dermal filler injections work?
Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid in a purified form. Before the filler is injected, a local anaesthetic cream is used to numb the area of treatment. The filler is injected in to the desired area of the skin. This purified form of hyaluronic acid is used to build the collagen which restores the volume, lifts the sagging skin and plumps out the folds in the skin.
The dermal filler injections may cause a slight amount of discomfort (a small scratch) however it is not a painful. The dermal filler treatment will last up to 12 to 18 months.
There are a number of areas that dermal filler treatment can be used:
Laughter Lines
Frown Lines
Smokers Lines (these are the lines that appear on the upper lip)
Lines that run from the month to chin (Marionette Lines)
Correct hollowness around the eyes
Cheeks – Having this treatment will create a fuller, youthful lift and correct the laughter lines.
Hands – The Dermal Filler treatment will help to hydrate, lift and plump the hands and fingers, this will add volume in to the sagging skin.
Nose – Dermal Fillers are used to repair a crooked nose or build a higher nasal bridge

The possible side effects from using Dermal Fillers:

You may get a very small amount of bleeding and possibly a small bruise at the injection site due the needle being inserted.

Dermal fillers are normally used to plump up the skin compared to botox that target fine lines and wrinkles.

botox vision

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog shares his thoughts on your botox vision.

Your Botox Vision

“Vision without execution is hallucination.”
Thomas Jefferson (1743 – 1826), 3rd President of the United States
You will have a greater chance of success in your botox business if you have a vision for that part of the business. It must be inspired by something you are passionate about. You need to start with the end in mind and with this you will overcome obstacles.
There are several sub sections and I suggest you spend some time answering each section and undertake it as a team exercise with your dental team:
(i) What is the ultimate result you want to achieve from botox, e.g. – what do you want to create?
Do you want to create extra income from botox?
Do you want to have botoxintegrated within dentistry?
Do you want a separate botox business from dentistry?
Do you want a mobile botox service?
What strategic goals do you have for your business, e.g. – what
specific results do you want from the business?
Will it be financial goals in terms of turnover or profit?
Or will it be the number of patients undertaking botox?
Or will it be the number of days you want to do botox per
week?

(ii) Identity
What is your botoxbusiness going to become?
How will your botox patients describe it?
Will it be as a spa environment?
Or more as an aesthetics practice?
What’s your USP – Unique Selling Proposition?
Why should they choose you?

(iii) What resources are available to you?
What training will you go to or need to go to in terms of clinical and non clinical?
Will you delegate botox to someone else or will you do it yourself?
What kind of capital money will you need to set up the clinic and keep the promotional activity ongoing?
What ideas in terms of marketing, joint ventures, etc. would you need to come up with?

(iv) What’s your 3 to thrive? (courtesy of Tony Robbins).
If there were three areas of the business you need to attack to close the gap, what would they be, e.g. – marketing, team training, equipment, technology (website), clinical training? What three areas of business, if you focused on them, would make your business immediately thrive?
One-year goals, so relate this to sub section (i) in terms of what strategic goals do you want to achieve. What are the most important results your business must achieve this year? What do you need to do to achieve these results in terms of financial time spent on facial aesthetics?
Once you’ve worked out your one-year goal, you need to break it into 90-day goals, so to achieve your one-year goal, what must you do in the next 90 days? What are your top three goals that have outcomes for the next 90 days?

Botox and the TMJ

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog shares his thoughts on whether Botox help with TMJ problems?

What is TMJ?
TMJ or Temporomandibular joint and muscle disorders (TMJ) are a group of disorders that causes much pain, discomfort and dysfunction in the jaw joint and the muscle that controls jaw movement.
What causes TMJ?
There are a few reasons why people suffer from TMJ. The possible causes could be, this is only a short list:
Heavy punch to the jaw
Whiplash
Putting pressure on the joint, such as grinding or clenching of the teeth
Arthritis in the joint and
Stress, this can cause the facial and jaw muscles to tighten

What are the symptoms of TMJ?
TMJ causes a lot of pain and discomfort which can last many years if left untreated. This disorder is very common for people aged between 20 and 40. The common symptoms can be:
Pain and tenderness in your face and jaw joint area
Trouble opening your mouth wide
Jaw gets stuck in the open or closed position
You may find that your jaw is clicking or popping when you open and close or mouth or when you are eating a meal
Trouble chewing food
Headaches, toothaches, earaches, hearing problems and possibly neckaches

How can Botox treatment help with TMJ?
Botox injections used in small dosages can help overcome some health problems. Currently, the FDA has not approved the use of Botox on TMJ disorders. The National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research states that ‘Results from recent clinical studies are inconclusive regarding the effectiveness of Botox for treatment of chronic TMJ disorders. Additional research is under way to learn how Botox specifically affects jaw muscles and their nerves.  The findings will help determine if this drug may be useful in treating TMJ disorders’.

Botox in the lower third of the face

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog shares his thoughts on botox for the lower face.

Botox is most commonly used in the upper third of the face, notable the forehead, frown and eyes.

However it can be used where any dynamic lines are present due to over acton of the muscles. Therefore we can use botox in the lower third of the face.

We need to be more careful in the lower face with botox injections. Botox spreads and in the upper third of the face where the muscles are generally large, this is fine. However in the lower face we have many more smaller muscles that are inter connected. Botox spreading into an adjacent muscle by incorrect placement can cause problems for the botox patient.

Common areas in the lower third of the face that can be treated with botox are: chin, neck, corners of the mouth, smokers lines, nose to mouth lines, mouth to chin lines, gummy smile.

With these botox procedures, low under dosing is recommend to avoid unwanted side effects. The patient is reviewed after two weeks and any necessary botox top ups are administrated.

Botox for treating chronic migraines

Dr Singh who runs his botox clinic in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in his latest blog shares his thoughts on the use of botox to treat chronic migraines.

Botox can and has been be used to help people suffering from Chronic Migraines, having 15 or more headache days per month, at least half of which have migrainous features. Each of these headaches is lasting for more than four hours.
Botox has been licensed specifically for the treatment of chronic migraine in July 2010 by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). Botox is the only FDA-approved preventive treatment proven to reduce headache days every month. Tests have proven that Botox treatment can prevent up to 9 headache days a month.
How does the Botox Treatment work?
The Botox Injection and or treatment block the chemical change on the nerve endings. The Botox is injected into the muscles of the forehead, the side and back of the head. The Botox injection is also injected into the neck and shoulder to produce a partial or temporary chemical nerve ending change of the muscles (also known as ‘denervation’). Once Botox is injected it causes the muscles to be too weak to contract. The dosage used for this treatment is extremely low.
Who can inject Botox?
Currently, only very few specialist whom have received the appropriate training, certification and registered can inject Botox for chronic migraines.
Is Botox treatment for Chronic Migraines available on the National Health Service (NHS)?
In June 2012 The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) recommended Botox be available on the NHS as a preventive treatment option for adult patients suffering from Chronic on going migraines. This only applies to the NHS services within England and Wales.
